Goto START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM. Then remove all instances of the program even demos. If asked remove shared components.
Use Windows Explorer and goto where you installed the program, e.g. usually c:\program files\desktopauthor. Delete all the files you find there.
Restart your PC then reinstall from the original download.
Always, a good, constantly updated virus scanner is always the best defence against this.
